MUSCAT To give residents a better quality of life with all the possible means of a healthier and modern lifestyle in a posh urban environment, the Muscat Municipality is working on an ambitious project to build the Nahdha walkway in the Wilayat of Al-Amirat in Muscat.
According to municipal authorities, the project envisages a 1200-metre- long separate, designated pathways for pedestrians and cyclists. The pedestrians’ strip will be 5 metres wide while the strip for cyclists will be 3 metres, both separated by a 2-metre strip of landscaping.
A municipal spokesperson said the main idea apart from beautification of the city is to create facilities that will encourage a larger number of citizens and residents alike to enjoy the outdoors and take up healthy activities like walking and cycling.
The project will also include some sites designated for mobile vendors and of course paved parking lots. The place will be lit by 70 lighting poles.
Municipal authorities stress, the project is an attempt to exploit public spaces with projects that promote sports and physical activity, and to beautify the area in accordance with modern concepts of urban management and planning.
Designated stalls / kiosks for mobile vendors is specifically intended for the benefit of morning and evening walkers as well as cyclists in the area
The spokesperson said, in all probability the project would be completed before the end of this year.
It is worth mentioning here that the project is the third of its kind in the wilayah of Al-Amirat, along with the AL-Muhajj walkway and the linear / park in the fifth zone.
