Indian authorities have urged travellers requiring urgent assistance to contact embassy helplines or community organisations while flight operations remain limited
Nearly 500 Indian nationals have departed Qatar on limited commercial flights as air travel gradually resumes amid ongoing security tensions in the Gulf region.
According to an advisory issued by the Indian Embassy in Doha, the passengers travelled on Qatar Airways flights to destinations in India, including Kochi, as well as other international cities. The embassy confirmed that flight operations remain restricted because Qatar’s airspace is only partially open, limiting the number of scheduled services.
Despite the restrictions, authorities said efforts are underway to facilitate travel for Indian citizens who wish to return home or continue their journeys abroad. The embassy noted that one additional flight to Mumbai was expected to operate shortly as part of these arrangements.
·Qatar Airways also assisted in transporting the mortal remains of two Indian nationals who died of natural causes, along with accompanying family members, on humanitarian grounds
·The assistance was provided during a period when travel options have been severely constrained
The embassy continues to coordinate closely with Indian community organisations and local authorities to ensure the welfare of the large Indian expatriate population in Qatar. Ambassador Vipul recently held a virtual meeting with representatives from various community groups to update them on the evolving situation and ongoing support measures.
More than 100 community members participated in the briefing, while regular meetings are being organised with major Indian organisations such as the Indian Cultural Centre and the Indian Community Benevolent Forum.
Officials emphasised that the situation within Qatar remains stable, with essential services continuing to operate normally. The country’s Ministry of Interior is closely monitoring developments as regional tensions continue to affect the broader Gulf region.
Passengers who recently arrived in India from Doha described their relief at reaching home after experiencing uncertainty during the travel disruptions. Some travellers praised Qatar’s emergency alert system, which sends mobile notifications during potential missile threats, advising residents to seek shelter until authorities confirm the situation is safe.
The disruptions follow escalating tensions in West Asia, triggered by Iranian missile and drone strikes targeting US military facilities and other strategic locations across the region. The conflict has raised concerns about global energy supplies and maritime routes, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for international oil shipments.
