- Strict deadline and one-email rule announced
- The fresh guidelines reflect MCC’s attempt to streamline verification amid rising concerns that some candidates misuse NRI sponsorship loopholes to secure postgraduate seats
- By enforcing a single, well-documented email submission, MCC aims to minimise ambiguity and ensure transparent processing for NEET PG aspirants seeking NRI category benefits
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has issued a stringent new protocol for NEET PG 2026 candidates who wish to shift their category from Indian to Non-Resident Indian (NRI). The move, grounded in a 2017 Supreme Court judgment in the CODEUNIK vs Union of India case, aims to standardise document verification and prevent misuse of the NRI quota during postgraduate medical admissions.
According to the latest notification, candidates must submit all necessary documents via a single email sent only between 11:00 AM on December 1, 2025, and 8:00 AM on December 3, 2025. Emails sent outside this narrow window — whether early or late — will be summarily rejected. MCC has emphasised that multiple emails or incomplete attachments will not be accepted, placing the responsibility of careful submission squarely on candidates.
The document list for NRI status verification remains exhaustive. Candidates must provide: the passport of the candidate or NRI parent, visa or work permit proof, overseas residence evidence such as utility bills or rental contracts, documents establishing the relationship between the applicant and the NRI sponsor, employment or income proof from abroad, and an affidavit confirming NRI status. MCC has also reserved the right to request additional supporting documents if required during verification
The committee has urged applicants to track updates regularly on mcc.nic.in, as the NRI category is often oversubscribed and stringent scrutiny is expected. The notice warns that any deviation in format, missing documentation, or timeline failure will result in immediate rejection, without the possibility of reconsideration for the current counselling round.
