An NRI was apprehended at Hyderabad’s Shamshabad airport for making threatening phone calls to a local politician. The Hyderabad police detained Mohd Waseem, a Dubai resident, for allegedly harassing T Raja Singh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA representing Goshamahal.

According to police reports, Waseem, originally from Barkas in Hyderabad’s Old City, had been making regular threatening calls to Singh. The MLA had lodged a complaint with the cybercrime police station in Hyderabad, prompting an investigation. The authorities traced the calls to Waseem’s phones and IP address.

In response to the complaint, a lookout notice was issued, and all airports were put on alert. This led to Waseem’s arrest upon his arrival from Dubai.

This arrest follows a pattern of threats against Raja Singh, who has consistently reported receiving menacing calls from various international locations. Previously, a man from Saidabad was also arrested for similar offenses. Singh, concerned for his and his family’s safety, has had his security detail enhanced several times.

Singh has stated that the threats are attempts to dissuade him from his work promoting Sanatan Dharma, with callers threatening to kill him and his family if he continues. Frustrated by the perceived lack of action from local police, Singh escalated the issue to higher authorities, including a written complaint to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Director General of Police (DGP) of Telangana, supported by screenshots of the threatening messages.

In a further act of protest, Singh reportedly provided the callers with the contact number of Telangana’s Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, highlighting his dissatisfaction with the local law enforcement’s response to his situation.
