Accused had two previous marriages in US and Punjab, police say
An NRI residing in the US has been arrested in Delhi for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman multiple times under the pretense of marriage. He was apprehended from a hotel in Mahipalpur, southwest Delhi, reported timesofindia.indiatimes.com.
Victim Met the Accused Through a Matrimonial Website
According to police, the survivor, a resident of southwest Delhi, met the accused on a matrimonial website in 2022. After a month of interaction, they found each other suitable for marriage. The accused proposed, and the woman informed her parents.
On November 1, 2023, he arrived in India, and she received him at IGI Airport. They checked into a hotel in Mahipalpur, where he assured her of marriage before engaging in a physical relationship. After two days, he left for Punjab, promising to introduce his family to hers.
Accused Married Another Woman in Punjab While Already Married in the US
Days later, he claimed an urgent family dispute required him to travel to Dubai and persuaded the woman to accompany him. There, he allegedly assaulted her again.
Last month, the complainant discovered he had been married in the US since 2017. Though living separately, his marriage was never legally dissolved. Additionally, on January 19, 2024, he married another woman in Punjab, who now resides with his parents.
Since 2022, the accused had allegedly deceived the complainant with false promises of marriage and sexually assaulted her multiple times. When he returned to Delhi to meet her again, the woman’s family alerted police, leading to his arrest.
