T’puram: An NRI businessman from Varkala has been booked for allegedly sexually assaulting a young woman from Vakkom after promising her a visa to work abroad. The accused, identified as Shibu (60), a tourism entrepreneur, is currently absconding, police confirmed on Monday, reported timesofindia.indiatimes.com.

According to the FIR, Shibu took the woman to his residence, offered her a cold drink laced with sedatives, rendered her unconscious, and then assaulted her. The complaint was formally submitted to senior police officials and the chief minister two weeks ago, leading to the registration of a rape case.

The survivor alleged that Shibu drugged her, assaulted her in 2015, and recorded the act on video

Following her complaint, Shibu filed a counter-case, accusing the survivor and her lawyer of attempting to extort money. Police have registered cases on both complaints and stated that investigations are progressing.

The survivor, however, dismissed Shibu’s counter-allegations as baseless and demanded his immediate arrest. She alleged that he is deliberately hiding to avoid facing justice.

Ayiroor SHO confirmed that the survivor’s statement has been recorded and further action will follow based on the evidence collected. Efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the accused.

Police say the accused is absconding, while survivor demands immediate arrest.
