In a recent incident at Gannavaram Airport, an NRI doctor, Uyyuru Lokesh, was detained by airport security for possessing a satellite phone without proper authorization.
Dr. Lokesh, an American citizen, was en route to Delhi for a connecting flight to the United States when security personnel discovered the prohibited device during routine baggage inspection.
The authorities found that Dr. Lokesh did not have the necessary permission to operate a satellite phone in India. Consequently, he was handed over to Gannavaram police.
Police officials confirmed that Dr. Lokesh was traveling through domestic airports with the satellite phone, which is against Indian regulations. They also mentioned that a case would be registered following legal consultation
Dr. Lokesh explained that he had purchased the phone in Virginia and brought it with him to India. After promising full cooperation with the investigation, he was released and allowed to continue his journey to the US via Delhi.
