A new era of technological innovation is set to dawn in Durgapur, as Non-Resident Indian (NRI) entrepreneur Dr. Narayan Sharma announces a ₹100 crore investment to establish a state-of-the-art robotics manufacturing factory, reported thestatesman.com.
The greenfield project, located in the industrial region of Durgapur, West Burdwan district, aims to manufacture 150 advanced robots annually under the banner of Oms International.
The announcement was made during the Durgapur Utsav, where Dr. Sharma was felicitated by the Durgapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The investment is poised to not only advance the robotics and automation sector but also contribute significantly to the socio-economic development of the region by creating numerous local employment opportunities.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sharma emphasized the immense potential of the robotics industry in the future and expressed his optimism about the project’s role in driving technological growth. “This factory will not only manufacture robots but also provide jobs to local residents, enhancing the socio-economic fabric of the region,” he said.
The initiative has been widely lauded as a landmark development ahead of the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) in Kolkata. Chandan Dutta, President of the Durgapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, expressed his gratitude for this foreign direct investment (FDI) in the state’s industrial hub. “This is fantastic news for Durgapur and West Bengal. Dr. Sharma’s decision to invest here highlights the region’s growing potential as a global business destination,” he remarked.
