The family was pelted with stones after a dispute with police, leaving two children injured and their car damaged.
An NRI family from the United Kingdom was attacked with stones after an altercation with police in Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh, leaving two children injured and their vehicle damaged, officials said on Saturday. The incident took place on Thursday evening near Fatehpur village on Station Road in Gohad tehsil, reported tribuneindia.com.
Following the incident, members of the Sikh community staged demonstrations near Gohad Chauraha police station, demanding action against constable Kuldeep Kushwaha and transfer of the Station House Officer. The agitation was called off after Superintendent of Police (SP) Asit Yadav assured a fair investigation and strict action.
Sikh community staged protests demanding FIR, action against constable and SHO; police assured strict probe
SP Yadav clarified that Kushwaha had already been line-attached on Thursday and denied that the move came only after the family contacted the UK Embassy. “The two children sustained only bruises. Stones were thrown to stop the vehicle, leading to damage and injuries. An FIR will first be registered against unidentified miscreants. Further action will follow based on investigation,” he said.
Congress MLA Keshav Desai, who joined the protest, said he would ensure the constable is booked and the SHO transferred. According to him, Dr Vikramjeet Singh, his wife Rajveer Kaur, and their children Ravneet and Rohanpreet were visiting Fatehpur, Rajveer’s native village. While their car was parked to buy fruits and sweets, Kushwaha—dressed in civil clothes—argued with Dr Singh and recorded a video of the vehicle. When Singh objected, Kushwaha allegedly threatened him.
Fearing trouble, Singh drove away but was soon stopped by unidentified men near a roadside dhaba. The family was then attacked with stones and sticks, leaving the children injured and the car’s windows shattered. The police said attackers are being identified and termed the episode a result of “miscommunication” between the family and the policeman.
