The NRI Coastal police have booked an unidentified woman for knocking down a six-year-old boy near Jewel of Navi Mumbai and abandoning him after pretending to take him to the hospital. The incident occurred on December 30 around 7:30 pm when Mohammad Sameem Ansari, a six-year-old boy, was crossing the road near L&T Chowk, reportedfreepressjournal.in.

Accident followed by abandonment

A red Kia Seltos car struck the boy and ran over his left foot. Witnesses at the scene quickly gathered to assist, urging the woman to drive the boy to the hospital. An aunt of the boy accompanied him in the car.

A local man suggested they take the child to Seawoods Hospital, but instead of stopping, the woman drove off, eventually returning to the accident spot and abandoning the child and his aunt. The woman then fled the scene with two teenagers in the car.

Father’s desperate search for help

  • The boy’s father, Sameem Ansari, a balloon seller, arrived shortly after and took his son to several hospitals, only to be turned away each time

  • After visiting multiple facilities, the boy was finally admitted to JJ Hospital where surgery was performed

  • Ansari, who had recently moved to Navi Mumbai from Uttar Pradesh, shared the difficulties of navigating the healthcare system as an illiterate migrant

Police investigation underway

The police are now reviewing CCTV footage to identify the woman and her vehicle. The woman has been booked for rash driving, recklessness, and endangering the boy’s life under the BNS and Motor Vehicle Act.
