A 35-year-old NRI from the United States dies after being shot during a chain-snatching incident
In a tragic incident in Vaishali district, Rahul Anand, a non-resident Indian (NRI), was shot and killed on Friday during an attempted chain snatching. The incident occurred around 9am near the Ufraul power substation under the Rajapakad police station area. Anand was traveling with his mother and daughter when the two assailants, riding a motorcycle, approached them under the pretense of asking for directions, reported timesofindia.indiatimes.com.
A Struggle for Survival Turns Fatal for the NRI
The situation turned violent when the assailants tried to snatch Anand’s gold chain. As Anand resisted, a struggle broke out, and one of the attackers shot him in the chest before fleeing the scene.
Despite efforts from locals to rush Anand to a nearby hospital, his injuries were too severe. He was then transferred to a private hospital in Patna, where he later succumbed to his wounds
Mahua SDPO Durga Shakti confirmed that Anand had been working for a private company in the United States on a work visa and had recently returned to his hometown to celebrate Holi with his family.
Investigations are ongoing, with CCTV footage being reviewed to identify the suspects. One of the suspects is reportedly a notorious criminal from Vaishali, with a bounty of Rs 25,000 on his head. However, the police have not revealed the name of the criminal at this stage.
