NRI prefers Kochi over Bengaluru to relocate

An Indian man, married to a British woman, recently turned to Reddit for advice on which Indian city would be ideal for his family’s relocation next year. Planning to move in February 2025 with his wife and three-month-old daughter, J Pal, originally from Kolkata, is considering settling in Kochi, Kerala, reported HT.

His decision to choose Kochi over Bengaluru was largely influenced by his parents’ recommendation and several key factors he shared with the Reddit community.

Pal’s primary concern was the presence of “language-based regionalism,” which he perceived in Bengaluru. He was curious if Kochi, the commercial hub of Kerala, had similar issues. Additionally, he sought to understand if Kochi is a safe city for women and if it holds a conservative outlook. Given that Pal and his wife plan to commute mostly by car, they also wanted insights into the city’s traffic and road safety conditions.

As a new father, Pal was particularly interested in the availability of good educational facilities, specifically iGCSE schools, for his daughter’s future education. Lastly, he was curious whether Kochi, a Tier-2 city, would offer a slower pace and quieter life compared to more prominent cities like Pune or Kolkata, aligning with his family’s preference for a less hectic lifestyle.

Redditors responded positively to Pal’s queries, painting a favorable picture of Kochi as a highly livable city. They assured him that Kochi has a cosmopolitan culture with minimal language barriers; those unfamiliar with Malayalam can easily manage daily affairs in English or Hindi. Users highlighted that the city is relatively safe for women and has a considerable expatriate community, including many Westerners.

Further addressing Pal’s concerns, users praised Kochi’s healthcare facilities and well-connected public transport system, which includes a metro and water metro, making commuting easier. Additionally, the presence of reputable schools offering international curricula was also noted, aligning with Pal’s educational priorities for his daughter.

Overall, Reddit users provided reassuring feedback, suggesting that Kochi could be a great choice for Pal and his family, meeting both their lifestyle preferences and practical needs.
