Police in Bathinda have filed murder case against four people over the killing of 28-year-old Gurwinder Singh from Sukhanwala village in Faridkot district. The 240-page chargesheet, submitted on Friday, named victim’s wife, Rupinder Kaur, as the main accused and lists 48 witnesses.
According to investigators, Gurwinder’s body was found on the roof of his home on 28 November 2025. Police allege that the murder was the result of a conspiracy involving Rupinder and her alleged partner, Harkanwalpreet Singh, 28, from Balluana village in Bathinda.
Gurwinder and Rupinder got married in November 2023 while Rupinder was living in Canada. She returned to India in January 2025.

Police claim that after Gurwinder’s parents moved to Canada in March, Rupinder began an extramarital relationship with Harkanwalpreet

The chargesheet states that Rupinder met Harkanwalpreet secretly, with help from Rupinder’s friend, Veerinder Kaur, 27, from Faridkot
Investigators allege that on the night of the murder, Harkanwalpreet travelled to Gurwinder’s home with a friend, Vishavjeet, 28, from Dabwali in Haryana. Police claim Rupinder injected Gurwinder with an intoxicating substance before the group strangled him.
The initial complaint was filed by Gurwinder’s sister, Manveer Kaur, who lives in Canada and was visiting relatives in Fazilka at the time. She told police that her brother had become suspicious of his wife and had said he was being harassed for months. On the night of 28 November, he reportedly phoned her to say he had found proof of the affair and feared he might be killed for his land. Hours later, she was informed of his death.
