Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has asked the NRIs from the state to support and transform the state’s economy. That will help make Punjab a front-runner in the world. The Chief Minister also asked NRIs to contribute for the promotion of education and healthcare services, besides strengthening economic and social ties.

Addressing a gathering of non-resident Indians (NRIs) at Pathankot recently during the ‘NRI Milni’, the Chief Minister said that NRIs faced humiliation from officials in the earlier regimes, reported IANS.

The Chief Minister said he has met a number of ambassadors and diplomats to rope in foreign investment, adding that the sole motive was to give impetus to the development of the state so that people benefit from it. The efforts will bear fruit, the CM said, and Punjab will emerge as a hub of tourism industry.

However, the situation has changed since he assumed office: a number of initiatives have been taken for the welfare of the NRIs, Mann said.

The Chief Minister went on to point out that a lot of path-breaking initiatives were being taken to restore the pride of the NRIs.
