A shocking incident at a Brooklyn playground prompts NYPD action against woman who verbally abused and assaulted a father and his 18-month-old son
In a recent incident at Edmonds Playground in Fort Greene, a woman verbally attacked Ashish Prashar, a 40-year-old Indian American man, and his 18-month-old son. The New York Police Department (NYPD) has responded by issuing an arrest warrant, as reported by americanbazaaronline.com.
The assailant, who has been identified by the NYPD but remains unnamed, verbally assaulted Prashar as he watched his son play. Wearing a Palestinian headscarf, Prashar became the target of derogatory remarks, including accusations related to terrorism and offensive comments about his cultural background.
The NYPD is treating the incident as a potential bias crime, investigating the verbal assault and subsequent physical attack. The incident occurred on November 7 at around 10:15 am, with Prashar capturing the confrontation on his phone. The video, shared on Instagram, documents the woman throwing her phone and a cup of hot coffee at Prashar and his son.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing bias and discrimination in all its forms within our communities
The motivation behind the attack seems to be fueled by prejudice, as the woman accused Prashar of supporting terrorism and made derogatory remarks about his ethnicity. Prashar, expressing his disbelief, stated, “My whole goal was to protect my son.” While the toddler remained unharmed, Prashar himself sustained injuries from the woman’s physical assault.
In response to the incident, Prashar thanked the community for their support and shared that the NYPD has identified the woman, issuing an arrest warrant. The NYPD’s decision to pursue legal action underscores the severity of the incident and sends a message against such acts of discrimination.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing bias and discrimination in all its forms within our communities.
