Muscat:

Oman is set to welcome over seven lakh Indian tourists in 2024, surpassing the record of six lakh Indian visitors in 2023. This marks a significant milestone for the country as it solidifies its position as a favorite destination for Indian travelers, according to Oman government officials, reported deccanherald.com.

India Leads Tourist Influx to Oman

In 2023, more than six lakh Indian tourists visited Oman, the highest outbound number from India to the nation. This year, the Omani government expects this figure to exceed seven lakh, highlighting the growing appeal of Oman’s unique attractions.

A Growing Tourism Hub in West Asia

Renowned for its wild landscapes, lush mountains, pristine beaches, and Arabian Sea coastline, Oman has become a key player in West Asian tourism. The Oman Ministry of Heritage and Tourism emphasized its commitment to prioritizing the tourism sector for national development.

The nation has heavily invested in infrastructure, including notable attractions like the Oman Across the Ages Museum, the longest zipline in Musandam, Naseem Adventure Park in Jabal Akhdar, and the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre in Muscat. While tourism in Oman is year-round, the ideal visiting period is from October to March.

Promoting Sustainable Tourism

Omani officials advocate for sustainable and responsible tourism, actively engaging with the Indian travel industry. “We are proactively promoting Oman in India through flagship events like our Roadshow series, held annually across Indian metro cities,” said an official. These events connect Indian travel agents with Omani tourism leaders, airlines, and luxury hotel representatives.

Additional initiatives like MICE Travel Shows and Sales Missions further strengthen ties with Indian travel agents by offering training and development opportunities.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties

Oman hosts a vibrant Indian expatriate community of approximately 6.65 lakh individuals as of August 2024. The country remains a crucial pillar of India’s West Asia Policy and one of its oldest strategic partners. The political and economic engagements between the two nations have increasingly taken a more strategic shape, according to the Indian Embassy in Muscat.
