Oman Sail gearing up for Sailing Arabia – The Tour 2021

Once more, Sailing Arabia will whip up a lot of excitement as seasoned sailors from around the world pit themselves against the elements of the sea and high winds, in a challenge of raw courage and skills

Oman Sail is gearing up to host its annual flagship event – Sailing Arabia-The Tour 2021 – from November 24 to December 5, 2021. This is the 11th edition of this event ever since it was first held amid the deep blue waters of Oman’s seas in 2011.

Project Manager and Acting Head of Sailing Events and Commercial at Oman Sail, Saleh Al Jabri, says: “For all of us at Oman Sail, it is a matter of great pride and joy to host another exciting edition of Sailing Arabia, full of thrills and adventure. The event has become a sought-after and anticipated fixture in our calendar over the past decade”.

Sailing Arabia-The Tour 2021 – from November 24 to December 5, 2021. This is the 11th edition of this event ever since it was first held amid the deep blue waters of Oman’s seas in 2011.

Elaborating further, Al Jabri says: “The event will be another fantastic opportunity for talented Omani sailors and a strong international contingent to test themselves in warm winter weather. It will also open up many opportunities to showcase Oman’s rich maritime legacy and the warm hospitality of the Omani people”.

He adds, “Every year, the event has enhanced Oman’s reputation as a world-class host, blessed with perfect sailing conditions and welcoming people. This year will be no different and our deep-rooted maritime traditions will be evident at each stop as the exciting, fast-paced racing captures the imagination of spectators and allows the crew to experience authentic Omani hospitality.”

Naturally, the event will also showcase the panoramic and unique coastline and beauty of Oman. The route will take participating teams to unique destinations in Oman, starting from Mussanah to Sur and back to Muscat for the finale, with coastal raids and in-port races at each stop. Each team will be competing in an identical DIAM24 trimaran, ensuring each race is a tough test of the teamwork, tactics and the endurance of each crew.

According to Al Jabri: “Since its very first edition in 2011, the race has grown in stature to become a premier annual race and a favourite winter destination for professional and amateur sailors around the globe”.

23 November 2021 – Opening Ceremony, Al Mussanah

24-26 November 2021 – Coastal Raid and in-port race, Al Mussanah

27-29 November 2021 – Coastal Raid and in-port race, Sur

1-2 December 2021 – Coastal Raid and in-port race, Marina Bandar Al Rowdha

3-4 December 2021 – Coastal Raid and in-port race, Al Mouj Muscat

5 December 2021 – Closing Ceremony and Prizegiving, Al Mouj Muscat
