Building on 2024’s success of 700,000 visitors, Oman sharpens focus on India as key tourism market
The Sultanate of Oman has announced an ambitious target of welcoming one million Indian tourists every year, following the strong performance in 2024 when the country received 700,000 visitors from India.
The move underscores Oman’s strategy to strengthen cultural and economic ties with India while positioning itself as a global tourism hub, reported ddnews.gov.in.
Oman’s Ministry of Heritage and Tourism is actively promoting the nation’s diverse attractions, ranging from pristine beaches to rugged mountains, alongside its rich cultural heritage that resonates with Indian tourists.
The initiative highlights luxury travel, destination weddings, MICE events, and adventure tourism as key focus areas to attract high-value Indian travellers
Targeted campaigns, such as the recent ‘Focus Oman’ roadshow in Jaipur, form part of a multi-channel marketing strategy aimed at showcasing Oman’s unique blend of luxury experiences and adventure opportunities.
The tourism push is backed by visitor-friendly visa policies and enhanced air connectivity, with improved flight links between major Indian cities and Muscat, making travel easier and more convenient.
India has been identified as a priority market, given the substantial growth potential and strong bilateral ties. With India already contributing significantly to Oman’s international visitor numbers in 2024, officials believe the ambitious one million target is within reach.
This strategic focus aligns with Oman’s Vision 2040 diversification agenda, positioning tourism as a vital sector to reduce reliance on traditional industries while deepening people-to-people connections between the two countries.
