One World Trade Center, tallest US building to lit in Indian flag colour

Soon after sunset, the lighting would start and continue till 2 am (New York City time)

The tallest building in the US will be lit up in Indian flag colour on Sunday (August 15, 2021) to mark the 75th Independence Day of India.

The iconic One World Trade Center building is located on the site of the 9/11 terror attack.

Soon after sunset, the lighting would start and continue till 2 am (New York City time).

“This initiative commemorates the world’s largest democracy, India entering its 75th year of Independence,” the American Bazaar news outlet reported on Friday citing the South Asian Engagement Foundation (SAEF), a community organisation, as saying in a statement.

“This is a historic moment commemorating India’s Independence and most importantly the expression of love between the US and India,” said Rahul Walia, Founding trustee of SAEF.

 

“We hope to continue the tradition and enhance the experience for everyone with more imagery on the podium,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Leading Indian diaspora organisation Federation of Indian Associations – New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, will unfurl the biggest tricolour at the famous Times Square in New York on August 15 to mark the 75th Independence Day of India.

The size of the tricolour will be feet wide and 10 feet long. The diaspora organisation has planned some special events marking the day. There will be an India Day billboard displayed for 24 hours at Times Square.
