Pak ISI orchestrated Nijjar killing to tarnish India-Canada ties: sources

The source say ISI had good” relations with Nijjar and had been using him in anti-India activities in Canada

New Delhi: A new twist has emerged in the row between India and Canada over the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June this year, wherein sources have claimed that Pakistan’s spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) orchestrated the murder of Khalistani terrorist, according to  a report by Abhay Parashar and Ajeet Kumar for India  Television

According  to their sources, the ISI had “good” relations with Nijjar and had been using him for nti-India activities in Canada. However, Nijjar, born in India’s Punjab district and who had gone to Ottawa and secured Canadian citizenship “illegally”, was more inclined towards old Khalistani supporters.

This did not go down well with the ISI who wanted Nijjar to support gangsters who had arrived in Canada during the past two years.

The sources said Nijjar had refused to support the newer lot of  gangsters, and this prompted the Pakistan intelligence agency to plot his murder.

The sources also claimed that ISI, with the help of the Khalistani group in Canada, has been operating multiple drug nexus in Punjab– which is considered the main source of funding for orchestrating anti-India activities on foreign soil.

However, due to Nijjar’s presence, the income from drugs trafficking had been deeply affected..

Nijjar was killed in Canada on July 19 in British Columbia by two unidentified men. The issue flared  into a controversy when Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged Indian agents were behind the killing and claimed he had “credible proof”.

The Ministry of External Affairs, in a statement, rejected the claims and accused Canada of providing a safe haven to terrorists who were involved in anti-India activities since the past 3-4 decades.

Earlier at the United Nations General Assembly, The External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar rejected Canada’s claims and highlighted the “organised crime, by secessionist forces, violence and extremism” in Canada.

“In the last few years, Canada actually has seen a lot of organised crime, by secessionist forces, and extremists.” Jaishankar said.
