Prime Minister Modi to participate in the 6th BIMSTEC Summit and strengthen bilateral ties with Thailand and Sri Lanka
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a visit to Thailand from April 3-4, 2025, at the invitation of Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra of Thailand.
The visit will include participation in the 6th BIMSTEC Summit on April 4, 2025, hosted by Thailand, the current BIMSTEC Chair. This marks Prime Minister Modi’s third visit to Thailand.
BIMSTEC Summit and Strengthening Regional Cooperation
The 6th BIMSTEC Summit will be the first physical gathering of BIMSTEC Leaders since the 2018 Summit in Kathmandu.
The summit’s theme is “BIMSTEC – Prosperous, Resilient and Open,” with leaders expected to focus on ways to enhance regional cooperation, security, trade, investment, and connectivity, alongside collaboration in food, energy, climate, and human security.
Bilateral Engagement with Thailand and Sri Lanka
During the visit
Prime Minister Modi will hold bilateral talks with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to review bilateral cooperation and explore future partnership opportunities
The visit will also include discussions with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Disanayaka from April 4-6, 2025, aimed at reviewing progress on the Joint Vision for “Fostering Partnerships for a Shared Future.” The visit will highlight the enduring cultural, linguistic, and religious ties between India, Thailand, and Sri Lanka.
