As India and Oman celebrate seven decades of diplomatic relations, the visit reaffirms their shared commitment to deepening friendship, expanding cooperation, and working together for regional peace and prosperity
Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a warm and enthusiastic welcome on his arrival in Muscat, underscoring the depth of friendship and longstanding ties between India and Oman. The visit, which comes at a significant moment marking 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations, reflects the growing momentum in bilateral cooperation and mutual goodwill.
Upon landing at Muscat International Airport, Prime Minister Modi was received by Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said, Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs. Expressing his gratitude, the Prime Minister described the reception as warm and meaningful, noting that discussions with Omani leadership provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives on strengthening India–Oman relations. An official reception ceremony was held in the VIP Hall, where the Indian national anthem was played, symbolising the respect and cordiality shared between the two countries.
The strong reception and positive interactions signal a partnership rooted not only in strategic interests but also in enduring human connections
Prime Minister Modi highlighted Oman as a land of deep historical connections with India, shaped by centuries of maritime trade, cultural exchange, and shared values. He noted that his visit offered an opportunity to explore new avenues of collaboration and inject fresh energy into the bilateral partnership. Both sides are expected to engage on a wide range of issues, including trade, investment, energy cooperation, defence ties, and regional stability.
A key highlight of the visit was the Prime Minister’s interaction with the Indian community in Oman. He praised their affection and enthusiasm, stating that the vibrant presence of Indians in the Gulf nation is a living example of the strong people-to-people bonds between the two countries. The Indian diaspora has long played a vital role in Oman’s development while also acting as a bridge strengthening cultural and economic ties.
Oman’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in an official statement, welcomed the Indian Prime Minister on his two-day visit and emphasised the importance of the engagement. Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to meet Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, with discussions expected to focus on further enhancing strategic cooperation and reinforcing mutual trust.
