The Oshiwara police have launched a manhunt for Dr. Shenila Sayyid, who allegedly duped an Austrian national of Indian origin, Dumita alias Diya Aluwalia, of ₹41 lakh before fleeing the country. Sayyid reportedly convinced Aluwalia to invest in her company, promising lucrative returns, reported hindustantimes.com.

Fraudulent Investment Scheme Unveiled

According to the FIR, Aluwalia, an author and freelance writer based in Austria, was introduced to Sayyid through her friend Fazal Khan in April 2023. Khan claimed to have invested in Sayyid’s company, Joina Creation, and received substantial returns, presenting Sayyid as a doctor and entrepreneur engaged in medical research.

On April 15, 2023, Khan arranged a meeting between Aluwalia and Sayyid in Lokhandwala, Andheri West. Sayyid pitched an investment opportunity in her medical research project, promising returns of ₹2.40 lakh within four months. Convinced by the offer, Aluwalia transferred ₹41 lakh in multiple transactions between April 2023 and January 2025.

Initially, Aluwalia received ₹22.56 lakh as returns. However, payments abruptly stopped, and Sayyid became unreachable, her phone switched off

Victim Discovers Widespread Scam

Upon further inquiry, Aluwalia learned that Sayyid had lured multiple investors into similar fraudulent schemes. Realizing the scam, she approached the Oshiwara police and filed a complaint.

“Based on the complaint, a case has been registered under Sections 316(2) (criminal breach of trust) and 318(4) (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. We have initiated an investigation to track down the accused,” said an officer from Oshiwara police station.

Authorities are now working on tracing Sayyid’s movements, while efforts are underway to bring her back to India for legal proceedings.
