The Embassy of India in Doha marked Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas (PBD) on January 9 with a special ceremony at the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC), celebrating the achievements of the Indian diaspora and recognising the pivotal role played by women in strengthening India–Qatar relations. The event underscored the enduring connection between India and its overseas community and highlighted the contributions of individuals who have made a meaningful impact across education, community service, and media.
Addressing members of the Indian community, Ambassador of India to Qatar HE Vipul conveyed warm greetings and reaffirmed the Embassy’s commitment to working closely with Indians living in Qatar. He emphasised that Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas is an important occasion to acknowledge overseas Indians who uphold Indian values while contributing positively to their host societies. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message, the ambassador noted that the Indian diaspora continues to serve as a vital bridge between India and the world, remaining deeply rooted in its culture, traditions, and national identity.

In line with the theme, the Embassy felicitated several women achievers whose professional excellence and community service have fostered stronger people-to-people ties between India and Qatar
In the education sector, honours were conferred on Hameeda Kader, Principal of MES Indian School, and Asna Nafees, Principal of DPS–Modern Indian School, for their outstanding leadership in promoting academic excellence and nurturing future generations with strong educational and cultural foundations.
Recognitions under the Community Service category were presented to Anjana Menon (President, ICC Women’s Forum), Nandini Abbagouni (ICC Managing Committee Member), Aparna Sharath (Billawas Qatar), Usha Patil (Maharashtra Mandal), Zareena Ahad (ICBF Advisory Council), and Neelambari Sushant (ICBF Managing Committee Member). Their sustained efforts in social welfare, cultural engagement, and community building were lauded as vital to the vibrancy of the Indian diaspora in Qatar.
In the Media category, Anshu Jain, Aafrin Khan, Nazia Amir, and Anu Sharma were honoured for amplifying diaspora voices, promoting positive narratives, and strengthening cultural and people-to-people connections between the two countries.
