Honored for Public Service with the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award 2025, Robert Masih Nahar, a distinguished Indian-origin Spanish politician and sports administrator, has been awarded the prestigious Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award (PBSA) 2025 for his contributions to public service. The PBSA, the highest honor conferred upon overseas Indians, recognizes exceptional achievements and contributions across diverse fields.

The accolade was presented by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, during the Valedictory Session of the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, held from January 8–10, 2025. This recognition highlights Nahar’s transformative impact on Spanish society and his unwavering commitment to equality, well-being, and cultural integration.

From Punjab to Spain: A Journey of Integration and Achievement

Born on September 5, 1974, in Gurdaspur, Punjab, Robert Masih Nahar grew up in a region steeped in cultural heritage and sporting traditions. He pursued a degree in chemistry, laying the foundation for a career defined by discipline and vision.

In 2005, Nahar relocated to Barcelona, Catalonia, marking the beginning of his significant contributions to Spanish society. Gaining Spanish citizenship through marriage, he embraced his adopted homeland while maintaining a deep connection to his Indian roots.

Pioneering Cricket in Catalonia: Bridging Communities Through Sports

In 2009, Nahar identified cricket as a medium to promote cultural exchange and community integration in Catalonia. His efforts led to several groundbreaking initiatives:

Catalonia Cricket Club: Established as a cornerstone for cricket development in the region.

Union of Catalan Sport Cricket Clubs: A network fostering the sport’s growth across Catalonia.

Catalan Cricket Federation: As its founder and first player-promoter, Nahar institutionalized cricket within Spain, building infrastructure and organizing competitions.

Through these endeavors, Nahar provided a platform for youth engagement, cross-cultural interaction, and community building.
