In a moment of immense pride for the Indian diaspora, Sudha Rani Gupta of Russia has been conferred the prestigious Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award (PBSA) for 2025. This honor, the highest accolade bestowed upon overseas Indians, recognizes her exceptional contributions to education and community service, symbolizing the enduring ties between India and its global community.

The award was presented during the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, from January 8–10, 2025. In the event’s Valedictory Session, President of India Droupadi Murmu personally conferred the honor, highlighting Gupta’s transformative impact in education and her unwavering dedication to fostering equality and well-being in Russia.

A Legacy of Leadership and Service

Sudha Rani Gupta serves as the Director-General of the Interregional Public Organisation for Promoting the Unity of Civilisations, Cultures, and Religions, Centre for Spiritual Development, Moscow. She is also the General Director of Brahma Kumaris Moscow, which operates under the NGO Register of Moscow’s executive bodies. As Chairperson of the Council of Trustees for Brahma Kumaris Centres across Russia, the CIS, and Baltic countries, Gupta has been instrumental in advancing spiritual education and values-based initiatives.

Born in 1953 in Delhi, Gupta holds a Master’s degree in Botany and a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Delhi. After completing her formal education, she dedicated her life to the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University (BKWSU), committing over 45 years to promoting human values, spiritual knowledge, and Raja Yoga in India and abroad.

Championing Education and Cultural Values

Since her first visit to the Soviet Union in 1989, Gupta has played a pivotal role in establishing Brahma Kumaris Centres in Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Kazakhstan, and other neighboring countries. She has coordinated over 50 programs supporting the Manifest 2000 initiative for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence, earning the Gold Medal “Palm of Peace” from UNESCO’s Russian Commission.

Her initiatives include the international children’s project “Fairy Tales of a Beautiful Heart,” and the social campaign “I Choose Benevolence,” which continues to inspire positive change across more than 200 cities. Her work extends to organizing conferences on topics such as education in spirituality, eco-ethics, and human rights.

Recognition and Accolades

Gupta’s achievements have earned her numerous awards, including:

  • Jubilee Medal “55th Anniversary of UN Peacemaking Activity” (2003)

  • Medal “For Nobility of Intentions and Deeds” (2010)

  • Medal “For Courage and Humanism” (2012)

  • Order “Peace and Friendship” from the Moscow Fund for Peace (2014)

  • Medal “For Works in Enlightenment, Culture, Art and Literature” (2018)

  • Sign of Honor “Labor Valor” (2019)

  • She has also been featured in the encyclopedia The World of Women, which celebrates prominent female leaders in Russia

Gupta’s influence extends far beyond Russia. She has participated in international conferences addressing tolerance, religious freedom, and cultural unity, and has been invited to parliaments and public forums worldwide. Her visits to over 30 countries—including the UK, USA, Brazil, and Thailand—have brought her message of peace, spirituality, and cultural values to diverse audiences.
