President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, welcomed H.E. Mr. Prabowo Subianto, President of Indonesia, at Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 25, 2025. She also hosted a banquet in his honor, recognizing his presence as Chief Guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations.

The visit marks a historic occasion, as 75 years ago, Indonesia’s first President, Sukarno, was the Chief Guest at India’s first Republic Day in 1950. President Murmu recalled the millennia-old cultural and trade connections, including Odisha’s ‘Bali Jatra,’ commemorating ancient seafaring links between the two nations.

President Murmu highlighted the deep-rooted civilizational ties between India and Indonesia, emphasizing shared values of pluralism, inclusiveness, and the rule of law

Discussions focused on expanding trade, investment, and cooperation in defense and space technology. President Murmu affirmed Indonesia’s key role in India’s ‘Act East’ policy and Indo-Pacific vision. She also congratulated Indonesia on becoming a permanent member of BRICS, reinforcing the two nations’ commitment to multilateral cooperation through G-20, ASEAN, and other global platforms.

Both leaders expressed their commitment to strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, ensuring deeper collaboration in emerging sectors.
