India and Oman share a longstanding partnership rooted in centuries-old historical and commercial ties, which in recent decades has evolved into a comprehensive strategic partnership
Muscat/New Delhi:
Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, will pay an official visit to the Sultanate of Oman on December 17–18, 2025, accompanied by a high-level delegation, the Embassy of India in Muscat announced.
Indian Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman, GV Srinivas, announced this at a press conference on Tuesday.
“This will be the Prime Minister’s second visit to Oman, following his earlier trip in February 2018, and comes nearly two years after the State Visit of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to India in December 2023,” the Ambassador said.
The visit assumes special significance as India and Oman mark 70 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2025. During HM Sultan Haitham’s visit to India in 2023, the two leaders agreed on a forward-looking roadmap to deepen bilateral cooperation, several elements of which have already been implemented, with others currently underway.
Bilateral relations span a wide range of areas, including trade and investment, maritime cooperation, energy security and green energy, agriculture and food security, defence and security, technology, health, and cultural exchanges.
“Political relations between the two countries remain strong, supported by frequent high-level exchanges and regular ministerial and official-level interactions. Oman is regarded as one of India’s oldest and most trusted strategic partners in the Gulf region,” Ambassador Srinivas said.
Trade and investment continue to be central pillars of the relationship. Bilateral trade during FY 2024–25 stood at $10.61 billion, while investment flows have remained robust, with several Indian–Omani joint ventures contributing significantly to Oman’s economic development.
Defence cooperation has also expanded in recent years through joint exercises, training programmes, and regular exchanges, alongside close coordination to strengthen maritime security in the Indian Ocean Region.
The Sultanate of Oman hosts a vibrant Indian community of more than 675,000 people, who have played an important role in the country’s development and act as a vital link between the two nations.
During the visit, Prime Minister Modi will hold wide-ranging discussions with HM Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, reviewing the full spectrum of bilateral ties and exchanging views on regional and global issues of mutual interest. He is also expected to address a joint India–Oman business forum and interact with members of the Indian community in Oman.
Several bilateral agreements are expected to be signed during the visit, with details to be announced after their finalisation.
Officials said the visit is expected to further consolidate the India–Oman strategic partnership, open new avenues of cooperation, and strengthen people-to-people ties, underscoring the enduring friendship between the two countries in the landmark 70th year of diplomatic relations.
