The police in the Indian state of Goa has initiated a probe by forming a Special Investigation Team (SIT) after a complaint from Christie Fernandes, father of UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman.

According to him, his ancestral properties has been grabbed by an unidentified person, an HT report citing PTI inputs said.

Initially the Goa police registered a case and then an SIT was formed to investigate the case.

Braverman’s father, Christie Fernandes has complained about the wrongful seizure of his two ancestral properties measuring 13,900 square metres in Goa’s Assagao, the PTI quoted Superintendent of Police (SIT) Nidhi Vasan as saying.

According the SP an inventory proceeding was filed through some power of attorney about three properties prior to July 27, 2022 and the matter came to light in August.

Braverman father Christie Fernandes had emailed his complaint to Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, state Director General of Police Jaspal Singh, and Goa NRI Commissionerate.

“The e-mail was received by the department last week, and it was forwarded to the state home department. The NRI Commissionerate does not have the authority to investigate such cases. Hence, we forwarded the case to the home department,” the PTI quoted Goa NRI commissioner Narendra Sawaika.

Based on other land grabbing cases, the Goa Government had formed an SIT comprising officials from the state police, revenue, and Archives and Archaeology Department earlier this year.

More than 100 land grabbing cases are being investigated by the SIT and some 15 arrests have been made. Among the arrested are two officials from Archives and Archaeology Department, the HT report said.
