India, as the current chair of the Quad, is hosting the “Quad Workshop on Pandemic Preparedness for the Indo-Pacific Region” from March 17-19, 2025, in New Delhi. The initiative stems from the 6th Quad Leaders’ Summit held in September 2024, emphasizing collaboration on global health security.

Senior health officials and experts from the Quad nations—India, the United States, Japan, and Australia—are participating, along with 25 delegates from 15 Indo-Pacific nations, including Cambodia, Fiji, Indonesia, the Maldives, and the Philippines, as well as international health organizations.

Enhancing Pandemic Preparedness in the Indo-Pacific

The workshop, inaugurated by Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel, features high-level discussions on governance, surveillance, and pandemic response innovation

Other notable speakers include Principal Scientific Advisor Ajay Kumar Sood, Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava, Additional Secretary (MoH&FW) V. Hekali Zhimomi, and Additional Secretary (MEA) Nagaraj Naidu Kakanur.

Panel discussions cover global health resilience, cross-border coordination, and the One Health approach. Experts are also participating in simulations of pandemics like Avian Influenza, Mpox, and Ebola to refine response strategies. Delegates will visit India’s National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the National Centre for Vector-Borne Disease Control to gain insights into India’s public health infrastructure and emergency response mechanisms.

The Quad Workshop marks a significant step in strengthening Indo-Pacific health security, fostering international cooperation, and ensuring coordinated pandemic responses for future outbreaks.
