Senior diplomat from the 2009 batch to assume new role in Asmara soon
New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs on Monday announced the appointment of Raj Kamal (YOA: 2009), currently serving at the Consulate General of India in Milan, as the next Ambassador of India to the State of Eritrea.
A career diplomat with extensive experience, Raj Kamal has served in various capacities in India’s missions abroad and at headquarters. His appointment underscores India’s continued efforts to strengthen its diplomatic engagement with Eritrea and the wider Horn of Africa region.
He is expected to take up his assignment in Asmara shortly.
India and Eritrea share warm bilateral ties, with cooperation spanning education, capacity building, agriculture, and trade. The new ambassador is expected to further enhance these areas of partnership, while exploring new avenues of collaboration in technology, renewable energy, and people-to-people exchanges.
Raj Kamal’s experience in European postings is likely to bring a fresh perspective to India’s engagement with Eritrea, as New Delhi continues to expand its outreach in Africa under its “Vision for Global South” initiative.
