Rajasthan is planning to include a private player to run the Palace On Wheels. The Public-Private Partnership model will, the tourism department of Rajasthan believes, will improve its financials, efficiency and visitor experience.

Reports indicate that Principal Secretary Gayatri Rathore, RTDC Chairman Dharmendra Rathore, and Managing Director Manisha Arora talked to industry bodies like FICCI, Federation of Hospitality and Tourism of Rajasthan (FHTR), Hotel and Restaurant Association of Rajasthan (HRAR) and others for preparing a bid for the same.

The private player will operate, manage and market while there is no change in the ownership. The department is looking to onboard the private player before the tourist season starts from September

Gayatri Rathore was quoted by ToI, “We want to give international standard hospitality, experience and ambience to the tourists and build on the already-popular brand of Palace On Wheels. That’s why we wanted to have suggestions from the tour operators, hoteliers, and industry bodies before floating the bid to rope in a private player.” The private player will operate, manage and market while there is no change in the ownership. The department is looking to onboard the private player before the tourist season starts from September.

The Palace On Wheels lost two years due to the Covid pandemic, said Gayatri Rathore. “When the coming season starts, we want to go to market with a very lucrative offer. That’s why the plan is to get the private player well before the season starts.”
