The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Wednesday issued a notice to Haryana Police Commissioner to submit a report on the sexual assault and torture of five children within two weeks.
The Human Rights watchdog has taken suo motu (on its own) notice of a media report on the five children, aged 11 to 14, held captive for 18 hours by a civil contractor and four workers, according to a Press Information Bureau (PIB) report published today.
The media report alleges the five men detained the children in a building, under construction in DLF Phase 3, Gurugram, on the suspicion of stealing construction material.
The men stripped the children naked, sexually assaulted, tortured, and poured petrol on them, the PIB report says, citing the media report published February 5, 2026.
The rights body says the report highligths a serious violation of the children’s human rights. It has asked the Haryana Police Commissioner to submit a detailed report within two weeks.
The media report says the perpetrators humiliated the children’s mothers when they arrived to fetch them.
The incident was revealed after one child’s mother filed a complaint with the police on February 3, 2026.
