Congress leader’s statement on illegal immigration triggers controversy
Sam Pitroda, Chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress, has ignited a fresh debate with his comments on illegal immigrants, arguing that the focus should be on global issues rather than migration concerns, reported gujaratsamachar.com.
During a discussion, Pitroda remarked that society is focusing on the wrong issues. “We should be paying attention to the planet and global warming instead of concentrating on illegal immigrants,” he stated.
He further defended undocumented migrants, saying, “These people are poor. They come here to work. Of course, they come illegally; we understand that. But they are poor, and we shouldn’t be focusing on Bangladeshi immigrants—that’s wrong.”
“We should include everybody,” says Pitroda.

He went on to suggest that India should accommodate everyone, even if it means some suffering. “It’s okay if we suffer a little bit; we can share. But nobody wants to share. People just want to keep their piece of the pie bigger and bigger,” he said.
