In 2021, the US College Board confirmed that Board would no longer offer the essay part of the distinguished United States college-entrance examination, the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT.) Along with the no essay option, the College Board also cancelled all SAT subject assessments for scholars with immediate effect for domestic students, while international students can assess through June of 2021.
Confused Students
These alterations have been argumentative. Where many students are relieved by this decision, others who were hoping to score high in these SAT subject tests consider this to be problematic.
Some of the students felt that they may not do well overall on the test without the writing portion of the SAT wherein some felt that with no essay, they can prepare better and concentrate on the timed questions.
In wake of these changes, many colleges have decided to go test-optional this fall for the 2021-2022 entrance cycle, including the University of Texas, Rice University, Williams College, and Duke University, to name a few.
Additional colleges have elected to go test-optional forever, including Washington and Jefferson College, Wesleyan University, and Whittier College, among several others.
ACT or SAT?
For students, entering college in the United States, either have to take the ACT or SAT exams. While contemplating which one to take after these changes, this is a helpful resource to determine the differences between the two tests and help decide which one is best.
