NEW DELHI: In a significant move to enhance labour rights, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development announced a new policy on January 21, 2025, to eradicate forced labour wages. This reform is expected to benefit thousands of migrant workers, including Indians, ensuring better employment conditions in the Kingdom.

This initiative is part of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s Vision 2030, aligning Saudi Arabia with global labour standards

The Kingdom also became the first Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nation to implement the 2014 Protocol of the International Labour Organization’s Forced Labour Convention
Sattam Al-Harbi, Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD), emphasized that the new policy reinforces Saudi Arabia’s commitment to providing a safe and fair work environment for all residents and workers in the country.
With approximately 26 lakh Indians residing in Saudi Arabia, this decision is expected to bring significant relief by ensuring their rights and improving working conditions across various sectors.
