“Innovative ‘Enathu Gramam’ Scheme Launched by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister to Foster Diaspora Investment in Villages”

In a significant move announced during the recent two-day World Tamil Diaspora Day celebration in Chennai, Chief Minister M K Stalin unveiled the ‘Enathu Gramam’ (My Village) scheme. This initiative is designed to empower the Tamil Diaspora, allowing them to actively contribute to the development of their native villages, as reported by ToI.

During the event attended by Singapore’s Minister for Home Affairs and Law, K Shanmugam, Chief Minister Stalin urged the diaspora to connect with their roots by encouraging visits to culturally significant places such as Keeladi in Sivaganga district and the Thamirabarani River flowing through Tirunelveli and Tuticorin districts. He emphasized that the Commissionerate of Welfare and Rehabilitation of Tamil Nadu Non-resident Tamils would promptly address the immediate needs of diaspora members, backed by a revolving fund of Rs one crore.

To further facilitate awareness among Tamils abroad, centers have been established in key locations like Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Villupuram, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Kanyakumari, and Perambalur. The goal is to educate diaspora members about legal, cultural, and language-related matters, creating a favorable environment for safe investments in Tamil Nadu.

Additionally, the ‘Vergalai Thedi’ (In Search of Roots) scheme aims to select 200 youths from abroad and immerse them in the state’s rich culture and tradition. This year, 58 participants explored various destinations between December 27 and January 10, committing to becoming ambassadors for Tamil Nadu in their respective countries.

Chief Minister Stalin emphasized the shared heritage of Tamils, transcending geographical distances, and urged them never to forget their connection to Tamil Nadu. Singapore’s Home Minister K Shanmugam, also addressing the gathering, highlighted the influential role of Tamil cinema and literature as tools for preserving and promoting the purity of the Tamil language within the community.
