Immediate policy intervention is needed as new intense heatwave zones have been created in three regions — North-Western, Central, and further to south-central region
The phenomenon of heatwave is limited not only to Turkey, Greece, Italy, and Canada. It can affect India also, the trend of which has been noticed by some scientists of the Indian Ministry of Science and Technology.
Immediate policy intervention in India is needed as new intense heatwave zones have been created in three regions — North-Western, Central, and further to south-central region — of the country.
The scientists have noticed the heatwave events positively correlated with mortality in the Indian states of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. It pointed out that human health is highly susceptible to severe heatwave disasters.
The study focused on change in spatial and temporal trends in heatwaves (HW) and severe heatwaves (SHW) over the past seven decades in different meteorological subdivisions of India
The event has been identified as active for over the past half-century, a study conducted by the India-Mahamana Centre of Excellence in Climate Change Research (MCECCR) at Banaras Hindu University revealed.
The deadly heatwaves likely to have severe impact on the country;s health, agriculture, economy and infrastructure.
