Heroes invited to Istana Open House after saving woman trapped in car when road caved in
Seven Indian-origin workers in Singapore have been recognised for their quick thinking and bravery after rescuing a woman from a sinkhole that suddenly opened up on Tanjong Katong Road South, reported gujaratsamachar.com.
The dramatic incident occurred on July 26, when a portion of the road collapsed around 5:50 pm, forming a sinkhole next to a PUB (Public Utilities Board) worksite. A woman, who was driving a black car, plunged into the hole as the ground gave way beneath her vehicle.
The workers, hailed for their swift response, will attend a special reception hosted by the President of Singapore
The seven workers—Pitchai Udaiyappan Subbiah, Sathapillai Rajendran, Anbazhagan Velmurugan, Poomalai Saravanan, Ganesan Veerasekar, Bose Ajithkumar, and Arumugam Chandirasekaran—acted swiftly to pull her from the wreckage, ensuring her safety before emergency services arrived.
As a mark of appreciation, each worker received a commemorative coin from the Ministry of Manpower’s Assurance, Care and Engagement (ACE) Group. They have also been invited to the Istana Open House by the President of Singapore, in a symbolic gesture recognising their courage and public service.
The open house, which takes place this Sunday, will welcome the seven alongside other guests to the President’s official residence, offering them a moment of national appreciation.
