The first snowfall of the season in the upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, in Affarwat in upper Gulmarg, due to a western disturbance and winds laden with moisture from the Mediterranean that lead to rainfall areas all over the state, including mountainous areas of upper Gulmarg, where 26 mm of rain was recorded, brought down the mercury substantially.
It is expected that now the day temperatures in Kashmir will go down to around 20 while at night it will veer around 8 degrees Celsius. On Sunday, Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 24.4 and Jammu 33 degrees Celsius. Banihal in Ramban district recorded the highest 47.8 mm of rainfall followed by 33.8 mm in Katra, Jammu recorded 12.8 mm of rainfall and a minimum temperature of 15.1 degrees Celsius, 1.6 degrees below normal.

Reports of snowfall have also been received from higher reaches of Ramban, Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch, Rajouri and Reasi districts.
