Hosted in the city of Durban, delegates will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the heart and soul of South Africa, uncovering hidden gems and forging lasting partnerships in the process
South African Tourism is gearing up to host ‘Africa’s Travel INDABA 2024’ in the scenic province of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, with a special focus on strengthening ties with Indian trade partners. This year’s event will see the participation of more than 40 esteemed Indian trade partners, marking a strategic move by South African Tourism to engage with buyers from tier 2 and tier 3 cities in India, reflecting the immense potential of these emerging source regions, Travel Trade Journal reported.
Africa’s Travel INDABA is not merely a trade show; it represents a transformative journey, offering insights into global trends and local expertise. Kicking off with a dedicated Business Opportunity Networking Day (BONDay) on May 13th, the event provides a platform for knowledge sharing and thought leadership exchange among attendees, who will have the opportunity to interact with over 950 exhibitors, including key decision-makers from tourism boards and representatives from African countries like Zimbabwe, Zambia, Lesotho, and Swaziland.

This year’s highlight will be the spotlight on new and undiscovered regions within South Africa, including KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, and the Free State, each offering a plethora of unique experiences ranging from breathtaking coastlines and safari parks to historical landmarks and cultural attractions.
The report quoted Neliswa Nkani, Hub Head – Middle East, India, and Southeast Asia for South African Tourism, emphasizes the strategic importance of the Indian market, stating, “Africa’s Travel INDABA isn’t just about showcasing South Africa – it’s about forging deeper connections, and we see a massive opportunity in India’s tier 2 and tier 3 cities. These territories hold ample promise—a new generation of eager travelers seeking unique experiences.”
With a remarkable 43 per cent surge in inbound travellers from India in 2023, South Africa solidifies its position as one of the top three focus markets for the nation. The strategic alliance with Indian travel agents aims to capitalize on this momentum and explore South Africa’s lesser-known regions to create enriching experiences for Indian trade partners.
The inclusion of buyers from cities such as Chandigarh, Lucknow, Jaipur, and Surat underscores South Africa’s commitment to expanding its reach beyond traditional metropolitan hubs, recognizing India’s growing appetite for outbound tourism.
South African Tourism remains dedicated to showcasing the country’s off-beat destinations through the eyes of Indian travelers, celebrating the diverse offerings—from adventure activities to cultural experiences and natural landscapes. This strategic approach aligns with the growing demand for offbeat experiences, particularly among millennial and Gen Z travelers, positioning India as a key driver for South African tourism’s growth.
