As South Korea and India continue to engage in high-level dialogues and cultural exchanges, their bilateral relationship promises to flourish, benefiting both nations in various sectors
South Korea’s Ambassador to India, Chang Jae-bok, expressed optimism about the growing relationship between India and South Korea, emphasizing the importance of cultural and people-to-people exchanges. He believes these exchanges will further strengthen the bond between the two nations. During an event celebrating Hangeul Day at Apeejay School, Panchsheel, the ambassador praised the students for their enthusiasm towards Korean culture and the Korean writing script, Hangeul.
While Ambassador Chang hinted at potential high-level visits between South Korea and India, he declined to provide specific details. He highlighted the role of these visits in advancing diplomatic ties. Chang expressed hope that these exchanges would take place soon, further bolstering the already strong connection between the two countries.
Both nations aim to work together on global challenges and enhance their partnership in areas like semiconductors, electric vehicle battery technology, and defence
India and South Korea established diplomatic relations in 1973, and recent developments have seen an uptick in bilateral cooperation. In May 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol during the G7 Summit in Hiroshima, Japan, to discuss their nations’ strategic partnership. President Yoon’s visit to India in September 2023 for the G20 Summit further reinforced this collaboration, with both leaders discussing trade, investment, defence production, and technology.
The ambassador also noted India’s significant role in global affairs, particularly in West Asia, underscoring the importance of close cooperation between the Indian and South Korean governments.
