Ajay Singh, Vice-President, ASSOCHAM and Chairman, and Managing Director, SpiceJet recently asked Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to grant infrastructure status to the civil aviation, travel, tourism, and hospitality sectors that will enable them to take loans from banks and financial institutions. At a post-budget interaction, Singh also asked the Finance Ministry to support the inclusion of Aviation Turbine Fuel under GST.
ETTravelWorld quoting a statement issued by SpiceJet at the meeting said that the Finance Minister had promised to consider granting infrastructure/ industry status to help the sectors of civil aviation, travel, tourism, and hospitality. She also assured that she would take up the issue of inclusion of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) under GST at the next meeting of the GST Council.
In fact, in the Budget 2022-23, Nirmala Sitharaman did not offer substantial relief measures for the civil aviation, travel, tourism sector. The highlight for the sectors was the extension of the ECLG scheme till March 2023 to support the hospitality sector
It may be pointed out that the Indian travel trade have been asking for industry/ infrastructure status so that the sector – that has been devastated by the pandemic — can get tax relief and other benefits. In fact, in the Budget 2022-23, Nirmala Sitharaman did not offer substantial relief measures for the civil aviation, travel, tourism sector.
