First official visit to India aims to deepen cooperation in education, technology, and bilateral relations
Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya will embark on her first official visit to India from October 16 to 18, 2025, after assuming office. The visit underscores the importance both nations place on maintaining close political, economic, and cultural ties.
During her stay, Dr. Amarasuriya will hold meetings with Indian political leaders to discuss a wide range of bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest. She will deliver the keynote address at the ‘NDTV World Summit’ in New Delhi, organized by NDTV and the Chintan Research Foundation.
Visit to focus on education, innovation, and regional cooperation
As Sri Lanka’s Education Minister, Dr. Amarasuriya will visit the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and NITI Aayog to explore new avenues of collaboration in education, research, and technology. The Sri Lankan leader, an alumna of Hindu College, University of Delhi, will also revisit her alma mater during the trip. Additionally, she is scheduled to attend a business event aimed at boosting trade and investment between India and Sri Lanka.
This visit continues the tradition of regular high-level exchanges between the two countries, reflecting their deep-rooted friendship and multifaceted cooperation. It is expected to further advance ties under India’s ‘MAHASAGAR Vision’ and ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy, which prioritize strong regional partnerships in South Asia.
