In a tragic sequence of events in downtown Vancouver, Canada, police shot and killed a suspect following a stabbing incident that left two people injured, reported indianexpress.com.

The suspect, who reportedly stole a knife and liquor from a nearby restaurant, initiated the attack at a 7-Eleven store close to Library Square.

According to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD), the two victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries after being shot by police officers.

This incident underscores the swift yet critical response by law enforcement in the face of violent threats, with investigations now underway to determine the exact sequence of events

Eyewitness accounts provided a chilling narrative of the incident. Kylie Noel, an employee at Original Joe’s restaurant near Robson and Hamilton Streets, recounted the moment the suspect seized a knife from the restaurant’s kitchen. “One of the kitchen guys came out, asked if he could help him, and the guy grabbed the knife and asked him if he wanted to die,” said Noel. Her co-worker promptly instructed her to call the police.

Mainul Islam, a student and part-time delivery worker, captured the aftermath on video. He described seeing the suspect attempt to stab a man who escaped and later attack a woman. “Maybe he already stabbed that lady in the back, I saw blood, but she was OK,” Islam said.

Responding to a 911 call at 11:34 a.m., officers confronted the suspect inside the 7-Eleven. A video recorded by Islam shows officers shouting commands before firing at least ten shots.

In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), the VPD confirmed the incident, saying, “Two people have been wounded and a suspect shot by police following a stabbing near Library Square this morning. The Independent Investigations Office has been notified.”
