Tourism & hospitality sector get industry status in Rajasthan

“The move is aimed to promote tourism in Rajasthan and efforts were being made to make tourism trade and business stronger and self-sufficient.”

— Ashok Gehlot, Chief Minister Rajasthan

The Rajasthan government has decided to grant industry status to the tourism and hospitality sector in the state. With this, industry stakeholders will be able to get tax benefits and other rebates, levies along with several grants and benefits from the government.

Presenting the state’s budget for the financial year 2022-23, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said that the move was aimed to promote tourism in Rajasthan and efforts were being made to make tourism trade and business stronger and self-sufficient.

“Our government’s priority is to bring back tourism trade and business in the state back on track.”

— CM Gehlot

The Chief Minister also launched the Rajasthan Rural Tourism Scheme to promote tourism in rural areas. He increased the allocation for the tourism development fund from INR 500 crore to INR 1,000 crore and said that two tourist spots in each district will be identified for the development of adventure sports under the new adventure tourism promotion scheme.

“We want that more and more tourists should come and visit Rajasthan. This will also lead to the generation of more employment opportunities. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, stakeholders of this industry had to face many difficulties with curtailed business and closures. Tourism is a very crucial sector on which many counties’ economy is directly dependent. Our government’s priority is to bring back tourism trade and business in the state back on track,” the Chief Minister said.
