The Indian expatriate community mourns the loss of K Krishnamurthy Kumar, fondly known as K Kumar, and his wife Brinda Kumar, who passed away within days of each other in the US. Kumar, a Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awardee, was a prominent leader in Dubai, celebrated for his relentless service to distressed Indian expats, reported gulfnews.com.

“A Love Story and Legacy That Touched Countless Lives”

Kumar, aged 76, died in a California ICU as his family attended Brinda’s funeral. Married for 54 years, they were childhood sweethearts. Their daughter, Arthy Kumar, described her parents as pillars of strength, with Kumar as the “Burj Khalifa” of their family and Brinda embodying resilience and nurturing support.

Remembering Their Contributions to the Indian Community in Dubai

Kumar’s efforts as the convenor of the Indian Community Welfare Committee (ICWC) profoundly impacted the lives of many. From rescuing distressed expats to establishing shelters for destitute women and advocating for the underprivileged, his work was transformative.

Brinda, a teacher at The Indian High School in Dubai for 37 years, was a steadfast partner in these philanthropic endeavors. Together, they championed numerous initiatives, including empowering people with special needs and promoting Indian culture through arts and music.

A Life of Dedication Honored by Many

Community leaders such as Punnakkan Muhammad Ali, MG Pushpakaran, and Nissar Thalangara hailed Kumar’s leadership, humility, and tireless dedication. His recognition as the first community volunteer from the UAE to receive the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award in 2008 was a testament to his impactful work.

Jassim Muhammad and N Mohan, among others, highlighted the couple’s lasting legacy in uplifting the underprivileged and their critical contributions to the Indian diaspora. Their loss leaves a void deeply felt by the community.
