Indus Foundation poll shows overwhelming NRI backing as Trump pushes for ‘New World Order’
President Donald Trump’s recent tariff order on India and his executive move to end the Ukraine war have received massive support from the Indian diaspora in the United States. According to a poll conducted by the Indus Foundation, Trump’s approval ratings among NRIs and US citizens of Indian origin have surged above 90%, said Foundation President Vikram Bajwa. Harry Gill, a Miami-based community leader, confirmed the high ratings, calling it “unprecedented support, reported patch.com.”
Trump says India and Russia appear ‘lost’ to ‘deepest, darkest China.’
On Friday, Trump expressed displeasure after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin were seen alongside Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin. Sharing a photo of the trio,
Trump wrote on social media: “Looks like we’ve lost India and Russia to deepest, darkest China. May they have a long and prosperous future together!”
However, Trump later softened his tone, telling reporters that he remained optimistic about Washington’s ties with New Delhi. “I’ll always be friends with Modi. He’s a great prime minister. But I don’t like what he’s doing at this moment,” he said, referencing India’s continued oil imports from Russia.
Despite these tensions, Trump insisted the US-India partnership remained “special,” though he admitted frustrations over India’s foreign policy stance and its balancing act between global powers.
Meanwhile, India’s foreign ministry declined to comment on Trump’s remarks, while China and Russia did not issue immediate responses.
Poll underscores NRI backing for Trump’s policies.
Bajwa and other diaspora leaders said NRIs see Trump’s tough foreign policy as aligned with their concerns about global security and stability. The Indus Foundation urged Prime Minister Modi to reconsider his approach to the Ukraine conflict and US-India ties, given the shifting dynamics of what Trump has branded a “New World Order.”
