Two electric double-decker buses, adorned with vibrant orange hues and artistic designs depicting Odisha’s rich cultural heritage, are en route from Mumbai to Bhubaneswar. These buses are set to enhance the upcoming Pravasi Bharatiya Divas celebrations, showcasing iconic landmarks such as the Konark Sun Temple wheel and the Dhauli stupa, reported ommcomnews.com.
A Modern Tribute to Odisha’s Artistry and Sustainability
-
The buses, which have already covered 400 km of their journey, are expected to arrive in Odisha within a day or two
-
A trial run will be conducted before the celebrations to ensure smooth operations. According to the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT), three more electric double-decker buses will soon join the fleet, bringing the total to five in the first phase
-
These buses will serve Khordha, Puri, and Cuttack districts, providing an eco-friendly and culturally significant mode of transportation
Promoting Clean and Green Mobility
The state government aims to align this initiative with its efforts to promote clean and green mobility while upgrading transport infrastructure. CRUT has signed a 10-year contract with a private organization for the supply, operation, and maintenance of the buses. The agreement includes provisions for an extension of up to two years if required. The buses will operate under a Gross Cost Contract (GCC) model, ensuring sustainable practices powered by green energy.
Celebrating Odisha’s Cultural Identity
This initiative not only highlights Odisha’s commitment to cleaner transport solutions but also celebrates its cultural identity. The electric double-decker buses, designed with intricate artistry, will leave a lasting impression on visitors attending the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas and residents alike. As the state prepares to host guests, these buses symbolize a blend of tradition and modernity.
