Indian Embassy Provided Legal Assistance and Informed Families of the Executions
Two Indian nationals sentenced to death in separate murder cases have been executed in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed on Thursday, reported hindustantimes.com.
The executed individuals, Muhammed Rinash Arangilottu and Muraleedharan Perumthatta Valappil, had their death sentences upheld by the UAE’s highest court.
According to the MEA, the Indian embassy in Abu Dhabi extended all possible consular and legal assistance, including filing mercy petitions and pardon requests on their behalf.
However, the UAE authorities informed the embassy on February 28, 2025, that the executions had been carried out.
The families of both individuals were notified, and the embassy facilitated their participation in the final rites. “The burial of Muhammed Rinash Arangilottu took place today with his family present to pay their last respects and participate in prayers,” the MEA stated.
This marks the third execution of an Indian national in the UAE this year, following the execution of Shahzadi Khan from Uttar Pradesh in February.
Shahzadi Khan, a 33-year-old woman from Banda district, was executed on February 15, 2025, after being sentenced to death for the alleged killing of a child under her care. Despite consistent claims of innocence from both Khan and her father, and legal assistance provided by the Indian government, the execution proceeded.
Khan’s father, Shabbir Khan, expressed his frustration, claiming that financial constraints and lack of adequate support prevented them from seeking further legal recourse. “They hanged her on February 15, and there was no news from the MEA until much later,” he said.
The MEA has reiterated that it provided all possible legal and consular aid to the three Indian nationals, including filing for clemency.
